Shared Services

Shared Services is not a new concept. The greatest challenge for all Councils looking to share services is understanding how to realise the benefits AND make it successful.

Options to share services in Environmental Health and Immunisation has been regularly raised with Kernow by many different Councils over the past few years.

There are many reasons Councils start a conversation about Shared Services, including:

  • Planning for the impact of rate capping, amalgamations and other major impacts on services now and in the future;

  • Reducing costs of services and budget pressure;

  • Improving service delivery standards;

  • Achieving the statutory requirements required by Council;

  • Reducing the risk to Council due to underperforming services;

  • Exploring different approaches to delivering services; and

  • Evidence of Environmental Health and Immunisation services not being managed effectively in-house.
